Cost effective fuel measuring flow meter

Objective

To create a cost effective fuel flow meter to prevent the theft of fuel by the petrol pump owners (Gas Stations) in India.

Problems

  • In India, most of the petrol pump (gas station) owners illegally tamper their fuel dispensing machines to dispense less fuel than what is paid for, there by cheating the customers in a rampant manner. This fraudulent practice happens more or less on every petrol pump or gas station.
  • The cheating is to a level where in for every 100 rupees of fuel purchased, the person is cheated by at least 20 rupees.
  • The monetary value of theft runs in 100s of crores of rupees every year.
  • The problem is aggravated by the fact that none of the cars (except for ultra high end cars like BMW) have a utility to numerically display the amount of fuel in the car or the amount of fuel filled in the car.
  • Most of the cars/bikes can only display the relative amount of fuel in the car rather than the exact amount which makes it impossible to catch the theft of fuel by the petrol pumps.
  • Even the Oil companies have failed to curb this menace.
  • Every year most of the automobile manufacturing companies spent millions of rupees to increase the efficiency of the vehicles, but what is the point increasing the efficiency with such fuel theft.

Benefits

  1. Cost effective (The MRP for two wheelers should not be more than 500 to 800 INR).
  2. Light weight and handy.
  3. Tamper proof.

Prospective Customers:

  • Two wheeler owners
  • Car Owners
  • Truck / Bus owners
  • Practically every person who can to be cheated by petrol pumps.

We have successfully tested the first few prototypes to prove the basic concept. We are working on the advanced prototypes to test out other non functional constraints.
